Admission Arrangements

The school admits children into Reception at the beginning of the school year in which they reach their fifth birthday. The school year runs from 1 September to 31 August. The agreed admission limit is 60 pupils per year group in Key Stage 1. As Brandwood Community Primary School is a community school, admissions are managed by Bolton Council. Places are allocated according to Bolton Council’s published admission criteria. Further information about applying for a school place, including current contact details and in-year admissions, is available on the Bolton Council school admissions website at Bolton.gov.uk.

Applications for an in-year admission can be made via the Citizen Portal by following the link below:

Places are allocated according to the following criteria when there are more applicants than there are places available. However,  the council will admit all children with an Education Health Care Plan, in whose statement the school is named.

Within each category, priority will be given to first preferences ahead of second preferences and second preferences ahead of third preferences.

Priority 1: Children in Public Care (Looked After Children).

Priority 2: Children who are considered ‘vulnerable’ whose application is supported by the Assistant Director for Social Care.

Priority 3: Children who have a sibling attending the school at the time of admission as well as the application.

Priority 4: A child who suffers from some medical condition or disability, which makes it better for them to attend this school. Medical evidence must be provided with the application.

Priority 5: Distance from home to school.

If a child is not offered a place at Brandwood Community Primary School, parents and carers have the right to appeal the decision. School admission appeals are administered by Bolton Council.
Information about the appeals process, including how to submit an appeal and the relevant timescales, is available through the Bolton Council school admissions website.
